The meaningfull collection of data is known as INFORMATION.
>INSTRUCTION
The set of information is known as INSTRUCTION.
>SOFTWARE
The collection of instructions , which are collected for performing specific task is called SOFTWARE.

OPERATING SYSTEM
Similarly as given above O.S is also a set of INSTRUCTION, made to perform a particular task.
It act as intermediate/link/medium between the computer hardware and the users.

#An effective Operating system should accomplish following functions:
1.Should act as a command interpreter by providing a user friendly environment.
2.Should faciliate communication with other users.
3.Facilate the directory and file creation along with security options.
4.Provide access to complier and o translate programs from H.L.L(high-level language) to L.L.L(low-level language).
The main functions of an OPERATING SYSTEM are:
  1. It provides user freindly environment for the uniform exicution of program.
  2. It makes resource available to work in an effecient manner.

It also act as resource manager.

It manages:
  • File Management
  • Devie Management
  • Memory
  • Process Management
  • Security Management
  • Command Interpretation
There are two types of OS based of intraction with users:
  1. GUI(Graphical User Interface)

  2. CUI(Command User Interface)

Graphical User Interface:

WINDOWS G.U.I
In Graphical User Interface ,we intrect with computer by clicking on the graphical icon.ex:WINDOWS
While in Command User Interface we intract with the computer by typing commands.ex:MS-DOS#####
In current market there are many different types of Operating System (OS) present according to their needs for different sectors or uses.
Some different types of the Operating System (OS) are:
1.Single processing
2.Batch processing
3.Multiprogramming OS
4.Time Sharing OS
5.Real time System
6.Network OS
7.Distributed OS
